Another DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener

DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener #78: Markos Moulitsas Zuniga

It's not often that Michele and I have a political meeting of the minds, but we do seem to have a common hatred of stupidity, regardless of the side of the political fence from which the stench happens to emanate. This DUMB@$$ AWARD goes out to one of my compadres, and of one the darlings of Left-Wing bloggers. Zuniga, aka The Daily Kos, stepped into it with both feet last week with his commentary on the massacre of American contractors in Fallujah, Iraq. I wonder if it is humanly possible to be more insensitive and cold-hearted?

Let the people see what war is like. This isn’t an Xbox game. There are real repercussions to Bush’s folly. That said, I feel nothing over the death of merceneries. They aren’t in Iraq because of orders, or because they are there trying to help the people make Iraq a better place. They are there to wage war for profit. Screw them.

Look, we all know what opinions are like, and, yes, everyone has one. Even so, these four dead Americans all have families and friends- people who loved them, will miss them, and are in all likelihood devastated by their senseless and brutal murder and mutilation. To treat the lives (and deaths) of these innocent Americans with such callous disregard out of sheer personal political prejudice is just plain wrong.

Normally, I reserve my wrath for Conservatives, because they are frankly much easier targets. When one of "my own" is guilty of such blatant and mean-spirited stupidity and insensitivity, I just can't bring myself to look the other way.

Instead of apologizing, Kos only compounded his faux pas by heading the other direction, going so far as to delete the Google cache and the Internet archive.

Granted, some of the wailing coming from the Right is beginning to smack of self-righteous chest-thumping, and frankly the piling-on is becoming rather silly. Sadly, though, the reality here is that Kos did something stupid and insensitive, and then, instead of being a man and owning up to it, he tried to cover his tracks. So, in addition to displaying an apalling lack of sensitivity, Kos has also demonstrated the complete absence of any cojones. Nice move, eh?

Look, we all make mistakes. Lord knows I've written some borderline stupid and insenstive things in my time. A few times I've been called on it, and I've owned up to it. Hey, mistakes happen. Don't make it worse by trying to cover your tracks. Of course, if Kos had been a man about this, he wouldn't be getting his DUMB@$$ AWARD now, would he??

So, what have we learned here, kids? Well, how about that some Liberals DO have the DUMB@$$ gene. Whodathunkit?
