Another DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener

Morissette not sweating nudity stunt: Expects Americans will be horrified by it

Relax, y'all...its a bodysuit

We live in a land where we still think the human body is beautiful and we're not afraid of the female breast. I am proud to be able to stand here and do this.

I got a girl who lives on the hill
She won't do it
But her sister will

DUMB@$$ AWARD # 79: Alanis Morissette

Raise your hand if your as tired as I am of seeing the female body turned into a politcal football. Go ahead; I know you're out there. Janet Jackson's Super Bowl "wardrobe malfunction" succeeded in taking a debate that was firmly entrenched in the ridiculous and nudging it into the realm of the sublime. Now programmers are scared of their own shadows.

There are those Social Conservatives who believe that the female body is an evil, wicked thing which is best kept under wraps in order to protect the "sanctity" of the "family" (whatever the hell THAT means these days...). While I would agree that allowing our children to view the female (and/or male) body engaged in graphic sexual activity is not a good thing, why is it necessary to portray the female body as something wicked and licentious?

Personally, I could care less about Janet Jackson's nipple- or Alanis Morissette's body suit. What concerns me is that an atmosphere has been created which leans more towards kneejerk censorship than free expression. Programmers are now so terrified of being branded as "inappropriate" that they are bending in the other direction- sometimes to ridiculous extremes.

Alanis Morissette may think that she is helping the public dialogue along, but in reality all she is doing is demonstrating that she is truly worthy of her DUMB@$$ AWARD. For making a statement really doesn't need to be made- and then viewing herself as some sort of heroic patron saint of free speech, Morissette has gone above and beyond the call of DUMB@$$ duty.
