Another DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener

Cabbie who stole dying boy's toys pleads guilty

DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener #83: Cedric Deon Edmonson

There ought to be a special place in Hell for DUMB@$$E$ like this. Since I can't be certain that there is, I'll have to settle for doing my part and bestowing a DUMB@$$ AWARD on our detestable and morally-challenged Mr. Edmonson.

A former Houston cabdriver who stole more than $3,000 worth of toys from a cancer-stricken teenager last year could spend up to six years behind bars after pleading guilty today to theft and an unrelated felony.

Cedric Deon Edmonson, 25, admitted to driving off with the toys picked out by 13-year-old Steven Daniel Rael during a charity-sponsored shopping spree at a Toys-R-Us in November....

Rael died in February after a 2 1/2-year battle with bone cancer.

Edmonson's legal problems were compounded last year when an ex-girlfriend saw his picture on news reports and contacted prosecutors about a domestic assault that occurred in 2001.

State District Judge Brock Thomas sentenced Edmonson to six months in state jail for the theft charge. He also gave him six years for pleading guilty to the aggravated assault of his girlfriend. He will have to serve at least three years until he is eligible for parole.

Edmonson met the sick teen's family outside the toy store following Rael's birthday shopping spree sponsored by the Texas Wishing Well Foundation, which fulfills wishes of seriously ill children.

Edmonson volunteered to drive the toys to the boy's home in southwest Houston but never showed up at the home. After his arrest, he initially said that he had been robbed of the items, but he later directed authorities to a friend's apartment, where he stashed a Play Station, DVD movies, computer games and a bike.

It's not often I'm at a loss for words, but I'm not sure I can find the words to adequately express my feelings about this DUMB@$$. What could he possibly have been thinking? Of course, perhaps my mistake was in assuming that there was some actual, honest-to-God thinking going on.

Jesus, what a $^#&$% idiot....
