Much ado about nothing

Democratic leader blasts Cheney: Vice president targets Kerry in speech

Let me just state for the record that I do not know nor do I really care if John Kerry tossed his medals over the White House fence in 1971. Nor do I care whether or not George W. Bush completed his National Guard service honorably. Both of these "controversies" are over something that happened (or didn't) over 30 years ago. Neither instance has ANY bearing whatsoever on the situation this country finds itself in today. Can we PLEASE move beyond this petty, nonsensical crap and discuss something that actually matters?

If George W. Bush and Dick Cheney and the rest of the Republican goon squads want to debate the issues of TODAY, I'm certain they would find John Kerry ready, willing, and able. It would seem that it's easier and more productive for Republicans to focus on something that happened more than 30 years ago.

What I want to hear has nothing to do with the past and everything to do with the future. Where do Bush and Cheney want to lead this country? The same is true for Kerry. Where are we heading? I already know where we've been. The problem is that the Bush campaign refuses to address the future, because they feel they can get more traction over whether or not a young John Kerry really did toss his medals away so very long ago.

We cannot change the past. I'm certain that if Democrats worked hard enough, they could find numerous questionable episodes in George W. Bush's past. The past is not- and should not- be the issue here. The future MUST be- unless, of course, you have nothing to offer. Welcome to the George W. Bush campaign.
