Perhaps it's time to let the inmates run the asylum?

Iraqi mob hangs charred bodies of U.S. workers

I see an image like this, and suddenly I can understand why one of my best friends thought we missed a perfect opportunity to turn Iraq into a parking lot a year ago. Sure, we toppled the despotic Saddam Hussein regime, and we're in the process of restoring democracy. Well, OK, "restoring democracy" presumes that there was ever anything resembling a democratic tradition to begin with. Yeah, right.

So, this is how Iraqis express their gratitude? Part of me just wants to leave the country to bathe in it's own blood, but then I wouldn't be the bleeding-heart Liberal that I am, would I? I'm afraid I don't have an answer for this one. I feel strongly that Iraqis need and deserve every opportunity to succeed in rebuilding their country. Still, a little respect and gratitude would certainly seem appropriate. And a modicum of respect for human life would also go a long way.
