Random rumblings on a Sunday morning

Here are some things that you might not have noticed, perhaps because you were actually doing something important...like spending time with your family or finding a cure for cancer:

* Laurence Simon discusses the significance of Palestinian Pet Chow.

* Michele Catalano tells us why we won't like her when she's angry. We all have our demons, I suppose. Let's hope she can get hers under control.

* T. discusses why using "evil" and "George W. Bush" in the same sentence is no overstatement.

* Scott has the story of how, 140 years later, the crew of the USS Hunley has finally been laid to rest. Of course, there are some folks in east Texas who are convinced that the War Against The States is still an ongoing affair.

* Natelie Yates ponders the realities of how a good Jewish girl deals with the day to day oddities of working in a Christian relief organization. Hey, Nat...been dere, done dat. Imagine being a Buddhist working for a Christian relief organization. I learned early on I would be well-advised to keep my beliefs to myself- unless I wanted the weekly office prayer meetings to be praying for my everlasting soul.

* You know, I would agree with Solonor. There IS something disturbing about coming home and finding your underwear in this trash.

* Chuck Kuffner opines on why patriotism really IS the last refuge of a scoundrel.

* From Brian Kane, the story of a woman who, for reasons I cannot begin to fathom, lives off nothing but McDonald's food for 30 days. Aim high, girl!!

* Matthew Yglesias on the battle for John Kerry's soul. Of course, if the Catholic Church has it's way, they'll own Kerry's soul lock, stock, and barrel.

* Just Orb ponders why Texas needs to rethink it's insanity laws: "[W]e are the state where if the Devil tells you to do something you're guilty, but it God tells you to do it you're just nuts."

* Dawn discusses her time with the Dalai Lama and how it relates to getting cut off in traffic. Somehow, I doubt the Dalai Lama has ever spent any time behind the wheel on I-405.

* Jill Matrix on "turnabout is fair play"

* Byron LaMaster discusses the dilemma faced by Log Cabin Republicans: whether to endorse a President who is actively opposed to their lifestyle and the concept so near and dear to so many gays: marriage and the rights that accrue to married couples. Umm...perhaps I'm missing something here, but isn't "Gay Republican" the ultimate in oxymorons??

* Scott Chaffin riffs on the 9.11 commission, poker, and Waylon Jennings. Go ahead; YOU try to tie those three things together. I'm not certain that I could....

And here's some news you might have missed:

* Women plan to protest as topless barber shop opens. This no doubt will give Scottish Women Against Porn a reason for living.

* Trekking to a Deeper Understanding of Human Nature: Why Star Trek contains important lessons about capitalism and freedom.

* CBS, 12 others among 'Jefferson Muzzle' award winners: Free speech can be such a horribly incovenient thing at times, wouldn't you agree??
