Chuck Kuffner has an update on an issue that's been keeping me awake at night: Whether or not tubers will be able to use beer bongs on the Comal and Guadalupe rivers. I know there is nothing I enjoy more than drifting down a river on an inner tube while snarfing beer from a beer bong. Yeah, right....
Of course, the question is just how exactly DO you ban beer bongs without infringing on individual rights or inadvertently banning something that will turn the ordinance into a mockery of itself? One idea was to require that beverages be consumed in their factory containers. OK, but what if someone wanted to make iced tea and bring it on a family trip? While the idea of a beer bong ban may seem simple, the exectution is likely going to create a number of unanticipated and rather thorny questions.
I understand the reason behind this effort- local officials want to maintain the family-friendly atmosphere, and drunken young people using beer bongs tend to take away from that. Still, legislating against a particularly objectionable sort of behavior is a good way to open a Pandora's Box of all sorts of unintended consequences.
Good luck with thise one, guys. The wisdom of Solomon and the patience of Job still may not be enough to come up with a solution.
