What? They couldn't throw in Miss January?

Robertson traded for two outfielders: Lefty gets his wish with deal to Indians

You would think that if you're going to trade a promising young pitcher who won 15 games the previous season, you'd at least get some value in return, right? Unless you're the Houston Astros, who just traded Jeriome Robertson to the Cleveland Indians for two outfielders. (Hey, we've got too much starting pitching and too many outfielders...I know!! Let's get us some more outfielders!! Yippee!!)

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Several hours before the Astros traded him, lefthander Jeriome Robertson dug into one of his running shoes to showcase a baseball card that had been given to him a few days ago by a fan.

The more he stared at the card, the more disgusted he was about being demoted to Class AAA New Orleans on Monday.

The card had four pictures under the heading "2003 Baseball Leaders." Two of the pictures were of Jeff Bagwell, the Astros' leader in home runs and RBIs. In the bottom right corner, there was a picture of Wade Miller, the Astros' leader in strikeouts. In the left corner was a picture of Robertson, the leader in victories.

"Can you believe this?" Robertson said. "I need to get out of here. I need to be traded."

Robertson, who led the Astros with 15 victories last year as a rookie, got his wish Wednesday. He was dealt to the Cleveland Indians for a pair of minor-league outfielders: speedy Willy Taveras and slugger Luke Scott.

Uhh...who, exactly, are these guys? So the Astros got two guys who may well have brilliant careers in front of them- driving beer trucks. Thanks for a great season, Jeriome. Don't let the door hit you in the @$$ on the way out, 'kay??

THIS is why I'm not a General Manager. It's so much easier kibitizing....
