18 ways to improve the game

How the game should be different

Each of us who play the game of golf can probably come up with one or two or several things we might like to change about the game. Whether it be rule changes, equipment changes, or the abolition of sand traps, there is always something to focus on. What would you do if you could be Lord of Golf for a day? Ryan Herrington's got a few ideas, and a few of them are worth some serious consideration.

King for a day. Sounds interesting, doesn't it, even if your realm were merely the golf universe?

Thankfully our game isn't one rife with famine and pestilence, not when compared to many other sports and the problems and issues they face. Still, for all the joy and satisfaction people derive from watching, playing and being around golf, it doesn't exist without its share of blind spots, frustrations and outright annoyances -- a rule that's on the blink, a requirement that's out of sync, a concept that has outlived its day.

It is with a benevolent 5-iron, then, that we offer a glimpse of what we would do if left in charge, a series of proposals suggested solely with the idea of helping make our grand game more exciting, fair and enjoyable.

Of course, golf changes even more slowly than the glacial pace of baseball. Oh, we may have equipment that allows us to hit the ball a mile and a half, but the game is for all practical purposes the same as it was back when Bobby Jones ruled the links. So, if any of y'all are holding your breath hoping for mandatory mulligans, you might as well exhale, because you're going to be waiting awhile.

Really; especially when all we get from them are cold fronts and hockey players.... was the previous entry in this blog.

Well, this would certainly explain the rash of liquor store holdups around the state, eh? is the next entry in this blog.
