And now, to our reporter on the scene in Oaxaca

Adam is spending the next two months studying at a language school in Oaxaca, Mexico. Given the expense of telephone calls, we probably won't be talking to him much. Fortunately, he does have email access, so I imagine we'll be getting regular updates from him. He went to a Mexican professional baseball league game the other day, and these were his impressions:

Well, last night I went to a Mexican pro baseball game, featuring the Guerros of Oaxaca versus some team from Tabasco. It was...interesting to say the least.... The pitchers here suck. I never saw a pitch hit 80 mph all night, and I was watching the scoreboard religiously. Because of this, and the total inability of any of the pitchers to throw a pitch with some break, there were only 3 strikeouts in the whole game, none of them swinging. There were in fact only about 4 swing-and-misses the entire game. On top of this, the defense was borderline awful. Mishandled grounders, etc, happened at least every inning.

Another interesting thing about the game was that there were like 12 steal attempts. They steal all the time, and hardly ever get caught because the catchers suck. This was also the only pro baseball game I´ve ever been to where there were cheerleaders. Yep, every other inning, between the top and the bottom, the Guerreras took the field to do some kind of stupid dance. They even had pom-poms.

Oh, and they played ¨Who let the dogs out?¨ as well as various musical offerings from Linkin Park. Oaxaca lost though, 8-2, thanks to a grand slam and 4 errors.

Sounds like another night at a Tampa Bay Devil Rays game, eh?
