Hey, let me begin by stating that I admire Kevin Garnett. The man makes an absolutely OBSCENE amount of money, but he still has not lost sight of the fact that basketball is a team game. He is the single biggest reason that the Minnesota Timberwolves are a legitimate threat to win an NBA title this year. To his credit, he has apologized for opening his mouth for engaging his brain, but comments like this are completely beyond the pale.
It's Game 7, man. That's it. It's for all the marbles....
Sitting in the house, I'm loadin' up the pump....
I'm loadin' up the Uzi. I got a couple M-16s, a couple 9s. I got a couple joints with some silencers on them....
I'm just loading clips, a couple grenades. I got a missile launcher with a couple of missiles. I'm ready for war....
Yo, Kevin, get a grip, willya?? You want to talk about war? Talk to Pat TIllman's family, or those of the almost 800 American soldiers who haved died in Iraq. You're a basketball player, not a warrior. You play a kid's game. It's not war, not even close. While I understand your need to psych yourself up for the most important playoff game in your team's history, this is something best kept to yourself. Joking about war and the instruments of war in this day and age is not even remotely close to being funny or appropriate.
Someone who spends so much time in the public eye really should have a better grip on reality when it comes to the words he uses to express himself. I have too much respect for Garnett to allow me to go overboard in my criticism. Yes, the man is clearly deserving of his DUMB@$$ AWARD, but I'd also like to think that these ill-considered words are an aberration.
