Ethics? We don't need no stinkin' ethics?

Tom DeLay: Ethics Violator in Chief

With my Congressman, it's all about doing whatever it takes to keep himself in power. If he were to be honest, he would admit that the money-raising and the media-whoring is all about his self-aggrandizement. If it takes skirting the edge of the ethical envelope to do this, well, so be it.

House GOP Leader Tom DeLay’s penchant for abusing his power and selling legislation to the highest bidder is coming back to haunt him. After skating through on such disgraceful conduct as his infamous “K Street Project,” and receiving a “Letter of Admonishment” from a GOP-controlled House Ethics Committee, a series of over-reaching power grabs now have him mired in scandal. At least that’s our read of the (count them) FOUR major investigations currently swirling around him due to his, ahem, unusual approach to conducting the public’s business....

From rigging the outcomes of Texas congressional elections by suppressing the strength of Hispanic and African-American voters, to misrepresenting children’s charities; from exploiting Indian tribes, to misusing federal agencies to further GOP political goals, it seems that there is nothing that Tom DeLay won’t do (and no one he won’t abuse) to achieve his political goals. Can any Member of Congress who has spent the last two years rubberstamping DeLay’s agenda make a genuine claim to have served the American people?

Indeed, can any Republican member of the Texas Legislature who spent last summer rubberstamping DeLay's redistricting plan make a genuine claim to have served the people of Texas? With Tom DeLay, it's all about his unspoken, unofficial campaign slogan: "Whatever it takes."

If the voters in my district wanted ignorant, xenophobic, and unprincipled representation, they've certainly got their man. Of course, if you're rich, white, and Republican, you're probably feeling that DeLay is anointed by God- and if money is your God, you just might be right.
