Another DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener

Suspect in officer's shooting arrested

DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener #103: Quanell X

This is an unbelievably stupid move on the part of a man who one can only fairly and charitably describe as a media whore...and now as a DUMB@$$:

The man accused of shooting a Houston police officer was arrested today, and black activist Quanell X was charged with evading arrest after police stopped them in a car together on Texas 288.

An attorney for Quanell X said the minister was accompanying accused suspect Derrick Forney, 24, downtown to the police station to ensure the young man turned himself in safely and was even on the phone with an assistant police chief when they were forced to stop.

Police said Quanell X, who has assisted in arranging the surrender of suspects before, was charged because he refused to pull over for the police cars following him.

"He was in contact with our command staff, trying to bring Mr. Forney in so that no one else would be hurt," said HPD Lt. Gary Scheibe soon after the arrest....

Quanell X's attorney, Sadiyah Evangelista, said her client was on the phone with an assistant police chief when an officer forced the activist's car off the road and bumped into it, causing minor damage....

The activist was accompanying Forney, Evangelista said, because "he wants to make sure these individuals are protected. He was protecting this gentleman's rights. He was not helping this man evade arrest. He wanted him to turn himself in."....

Quanell X said then that Forney was nervous about turning himself in and wanted to see his wife and newborn child before surrendering. While police and news media waited at HPD headquarters, Forney was with his wife and child, Quanell X said.

"He's extremely afraid and doesn't want to go back to prison," said the activist, who has helped to arrange the surrender of several wanted figures to police in recent years.

Forney, who goes by the nickname "Freak," is accused of opening fire while storming out of a home southeast of downtown as police tried to arrest him after he missed a court appearance. He was awaiting trial after being charged with being a felon in possession of a weapon in April.

Look, "Freak" shot a Houston police officer. WHAT IN THE HELL IS THERE TO NEGOTIATE?? He's lucky that the HPD officer who arrested him didn't go freak on him and perforate his sorry @$$. There is absolutely nothing to negotiate, and all Quanell X (if that is his real name...) accomplished through this travesty was to get more face time, which seems to be his primary concern these days.

Thankfully, the officer involved will live, and in fact will not even need surgery. Apparently, bullet-proof vests really DO work. This episode could have been a real tragedy for HPD, the officer, and his family. Quanell X will likely get off with barely a metaphorical slap on the wrist, because local law enforcement knows that he and his supporters will play the race card if he is charged- never mind the fact that he was, in fact, harboring a fugitive.

Quanell X's involvement only serves to point up that certain members of the African-American community feel that their skin colors entitles them to be treated differently. Would he have done the same thing if the shooter had been white? Right; I didn't think so. For this, Quanell X is our latest DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener. Yo, don't spent the honorarium all at once, OK, Mr. X?
