It sucks when the tables are turned, eh?

Sudden Bush Hatred Fatigue Syndrome

I find it rather comical that Conservatives are crying "Foul!" now that Progressives have begun to use the same proven smear tactics that have been employed by the Far Right. No, I'm not about to say I'm proud of this trend, or that I endorse or condone it. Progressives have simply come to recognize that it is time to fight fire with fire. Now, the Right is exploding in paroxysms of righteous indignation- HOW DARE THEY? Well, where do you think we learned it, y'all?

Michele and I normally fall on opposite sides of the ideological fence, and I do share her sentiments to a certain degree. I also am tired of the hatred and the vitriol, but we did not set the rules for this game. I can tell you some of those who did, however:

  • Lee Atwater
  • Newt Gingrich
  • Tom DeLay
  • Dan Burton
  • Rush Limbaugh
  • Michael Savage

Need I say more? For too long, Progressives have allowed loud, profane Conservatives to set the tone of public debate. Now we begin to play the game by these rules, and they have the gall to complain? Sounds like someone wants to have their cake and eat it too, eh?

All Progressives are trying to do is level the playing field. It's not about hating Our Sainted President, but we do have some legitimate issues with the man.

If memory serves, George W. Bush ran for President in 2000 in part on the claim that he would be a "uniter" and not a "divider". Of course, he also promised to restore dignity and integrity to the White House. He has fallen far short on both counts, and it's time to hold him accountable for these broken promises.

For too long now, we have allowed the loud, angry Right to set the tone of the argument. What Hillary Clinton referred to as "the politics of personal destruction" has become a standard tactic of the Right (Swift Boat Veterans for Truth? Puhleeze....). Progressives have finally (and sadly) bowed to the inevitable, and have decided to play the game by the new rules. NOW there's a problem? NOW we're being taken to task for adapting and employing the same tactics that Conservatives have used so successfully for so long?? Gimme a break here, willya??

For the life of me, I can't tell the left from the far left anymore. They've embraced Michael Moore to the extent that even Kerry is mimicking his talking points. People who consider themselves fair and balanced Democrats are actually shills for George Soros, one of the masters of the Bush is Hitler movement.

I don't hate the Bush haters. I pity them. I can only imagine what's going to happen when this election is over. Either the Bush hatred will get ramped up and it's going to get uglier than it is now, or they will turn in their ABB hats for ABK hats and start over again.

Lose, lose.

Don't get me wrong; I'm no fan of the current political environment. If this is the way the game is going to be played, though, can you blame Progressives for jumping in with both feet? Why should we cede the playing field to Conservatives just because they don't like having company?

I'm all for changing the rules, but who will disarm first?
