Jesus doesn't vote Republican

What Would Jesus Do (2004)? An Ethical Guide for George W. Bush in 2004

By all appearances, you are on track to raise $666 million for your reelection. Jesus to W: “don’t go there, girlfriend.”

- Jon Perr

George W. Bush is a politician who has no problem with wearing his faith on his sleeve. Given that he is such a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ, it's not exactly a stretch to wonder what Jesus might do in some of the situations Our Sainted President has faced.

Well, being a Buddhist, I'm hardly qualified to address this point, but thankfully I don't have to, because Jon Perr (the founder of The Conservative Threat Advisory System) has done it for me (and brilliantly, I might add).

Perr looks at several issues with an eye toward how Jesus might have handled each. Let's just say that Our Sainted President doesn't compare well.

You’ve no doubt seen Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” by now. When Jesus said in Luke 23:24, “forgive them; for they know not what they do,” he was NOT referring to you and your administration.

So the WWJD2K4 message is simple: repent. You’ll be able to sleep at night. And so will we.

Hypocrisy and craven pandering in the service of ideology is the last refuge of a scoundrel. What would Jesus say about THAT?
