Clueless. Out of Touch. Disingenuous. President. (Never underestimate the power of a lie.)

Bush: Insurgents could strike U.S. if we pull out of Iraq

I am so tired of the “better to fight terrorists in Baghdad than New York” argument. Does this President have no better way to justify a failed policy than to trot out this simplistic, disingenuous argument? How many different ways will George W. Bush spin his screw-up in an effort to convince Americans that he should be considered some sort of hero? As many as it takes, apparently.

Yes, there are terrorists in Iraq, but Bush’s war is the primary reason they are there. Iraqi President Allawi himself said a couple days ago that terrorists are pouring into Iraq; would they have any reason do so except for Bush’s war?

Yes, the world is a better place without Saddam Hussein in power. No reasonable person would argue otherwise. Let’s not lose sight of the fact, however, that this war was not sold to us in those terms. It was sold to us as necessary to root out Iraqi weapons of mass destruction. Of course, once it became evident that there WERE no WMDs, the Bush Administration had to figure out to spin things so that people wouldn’t demand answers to all sorts of uncomfortable questions. Now the search for WMDs has been reframed as a “war against terror”. Of course, Bush keeps repeating “9.11” and “Iraq” in the same sentence often enough that, not does he believe there is a connection, a growing number of Americans do as well.

No one with a grip on reality would ever compare George W. Bush and Josef Goebbels. Nonetheless, it would be difficult to dispute that Bush has stolen a page from Goebbel’s book: repeat something (the relative truth of which is immaterial) often enough and with enough conviction and eventually it will become the truth.

What makes Bush’s propaganda spin so disingenuous and evil is that more than 1000 young Americans have died in a war based on lies, deceptions, and propaganda. Saddam Hussein is not the only criminal who should be held responsible for his actions in Iraq.

WE DESERVE BETTER.
