Do "The Lying Years" deserve a sequel?

Bush Cites Hussein’s Potential Weapons: Officials Echo Draft Of Iraq Survey Group

Say what you will, but the Bushies do know how to spin a story, don’t they? Al Franken once said that when the history of the Bush Presidency is written, his time in office will be known as “The Lying Years”. You’d never know it by listening to the President’s talking heads, though, who seem to be doing everything in their power to turn a major, undeniable lie into a shining example of foresight and leadership.

Even the President his own self seems to be getting in on the act.

President Bush and other senior administration officials yesterday defended their decision to invade Iraq despite errors in prewar intelligence, echoing the findings in a draft report by the top U.S. weapons inspector, who concludes that Saddam Hussein had no weapons of mass destruction but hoped to someday reconstitute programs to develop them.

“We didn’t find the stockpiles we thought would be there — that we all thought would be there,” Bush said at a campaign rally in Washington. “But Saddam Hussein had the capability of making weapons, and he could have passed that capability on to the enemy. And that is a risk we could not afford to take after September 11, 2001. Knowing what I know today, I would have made the same decision.”

Well, gee, I want to own my very own NHL team someday. Of course, I don’t own one now, but I do hope to someday have the cash to buy the Dallas Stars and move them back to Minneapolis. If you follow the President’s twisted spin and apply the same logic to my plan, I may as well already have the team. So is Tom Hicks going to start worrying that I’ll trade Mike Modano?

If we are to believe Our Sainted President, it was perfectly acceptable to invade Iraq- because Saddam Hussein WANTED WMDs. No, I’m not saying that Hussein didn’t deserve to be toppled for any number of reasons. What I am saying is we were sold a bill of goods, and over one thousands young Americans have paid for these lies and deceptions with their lives. There can be no more depicable act by a sitting President than the wasteful and wanton loss of American lives in the service of a lie.

What truly amazes me is that the American public has swallowed the Bush Administration’s propaganda that Our Sainted President has done such a bang-up job in the war against terror. Apparently, the America uber Alles propaganda is exactly what Americans want to hear. Apparently, we no long recognize nor much care that we were and are being lied to.

WE DESERVE BETTER.
