I guess it is indeed a sign of unavoidable old age when one actually looks forward to the fact that someday, somehow, a rock the size of Chicago, a super eruption of Yellowstone, or perhaps just the sun running out of fuel will eventually bring all this rambling to a close. But it was fun while it lasted.
My ex-father-in-law was sitting on top of Mt. Hood in Oregon when Mt. St. Helens blew in 1980. The picture he took is all grey- nothing but ash. He got off of Mt. Hood in a helluva hurry....
