This has nothing to do with "doing the right thing"

Bush asks McCain to help block 527s

BUSH CALLS McCAIN TO HELP PURSUE LEGAL ACTION AGAINST 527s

Then tell your man to call off his SBVFT dogs....

Well, of course Bush wants 527s taken down, silly. He knows that Democratic 527s have a 15-1 fundraising advantage over Republicans 527s, and there is virtually no chance of closing that gap. This way, Bush can have his cake and eat it, too. He can portray himself as taking the moral high ground while working to eliminate an area where Republicans are at a pronounced disadvantage.

By getting the courts to eliminate this disparity, Bush would achieve a huge victory in his run for the White House. By eliminating one of the few areas where Democrats enjoy a fundraising advantage, Bush would effectively remove a significant and formidable obstacle. Realistically, though, it's not going to happen in this campaign season. Unless, of course, he can involve his friends on the Supreme Court, to whom he owes his job in the first place.

I enthusiastically applaud President Bush's commitment to ensuring that 527s operate under the same funding rules that apply to federal candidates and parties. I look forward to working with the President, both in the courts and through legislation, to force the Federal Election Commission to regulate 527s, as they are already required by the law and affirmed by the Supreme Court, to do.

- Sen John McCain (R-AZ)

They're not going to be able to go to court and pull down these ads...They know as well as we do that they're not going to be able to stop these ads.

- Terry McAuliffe, DNC Chairman

Let's not pretend for a moment longer that for Republicans this has anything to do with fairness. This is about attempting to silence those who loudly and strongly support his opponent. Period. This is the way the game is played this season, and since Bush has not been able to jigger the rules to his advantage, suddenly there's a problem. Well, the only "problem" is the overarching display of hypocrisy on his part.

Do you really think that Bush would be grousing if Republicans were on the happy side of that 15-1 deficit? Yeah, right...this is as much about morality in politics as I am about being elected Queen of England.

If Republicans had the 15-1 advantage that Democratic 527s do, you would be hearing a deafening silence emanating from the hallowed halls of the White House. At least the Democrats are talking about issues that matter TODAY instead of something that did or did not happen 30+ years ago and is no longer germane to any issues currently facing this country.

Oh, that's right...Republicans are living in the past because they have nothing to offer today. What do you do when you have no bullets in your gun? Well, you begin by deflecting attention from your lack of plans and ideas. Spin furiously enough, and hope that no one notices that you're shooting blanks. Nice strategy, George, but it's a lousy way to run a railroad, much less a country.

WE DESERVE BETTER.
