Timing is everything, eh?

State of emegency for all of Florida

Florida orders a half-million to leave as Hurricane Frances closes in

Major evacuations begin, schools closed

To see a map of the storm's current projected path: View image

A week ago, I was still in Miami, and (at that time) Tropical Storm Frances was still far out in the Atlantic north of South America. Now I'm back in Houston, and damn glad that I am. This one could get ugly. What I worry about is the fate of those I came to know during my month in Miami. I was able to leave; they live there. I do know that I am grateful to be home in Seabrook instead of waiting Frances out in Miami. After seeing what Charley did to SW Florida, I'll happily sit this one out, thank you.

One thing that just struck me, though- and this is something that should concern all of us here along the Texas Gulf Coast- is that the projected storm track keeps getting adjusted to the south. If Frances does go over the top of Miami, a projected continuation on that path could put Frances right over the top of this area. It's been a quiet hurricane season here so far...I wonder how much longer that will continue?

Hey, could I get one of those Band-Aids with the purple heart? I think I've been wounded...or does that just make me a Republican? was the previous entry in this blog.
