Um...honey, about that Jamaican vacation....

Supplies pour in as stress mounts

Lack of power generates lack of patience

Evacuation begins in Keys; Ivan predicted to hit Cuba, Jamaica, Florida: Visitors began fleeing the Florida Keys today as Hurricane Ivan exploded into a top-line Category 5 storm and Monroe County officials ordered the first phase of a total evacuation

Guess how much I'm missing Miami right about now? It looks as if I got out of town just in time. It's a mess. Power is just now being restored in Dade and Broward counties- just in time for Hurrican Ivan to pay a visit.

The current projected storm track- and granted, Ivan is still a few days out- takes it over Jamaica, Cuba, and up Florida's west coast. It's a nightmare scenario if ever there was one- three hurricanes and a tropical storm hitting the Florida peninsula in the space of a month. There is no way to adequately prepare for this sort of disaster, and certainly no efficient manner in which to deal with the aftermath.

Damn, it must suck to be in Florida right about now. It might be time to rethink that dream home in the Keys....
