Another DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener

Beaumont schools ban film: Superintendent cites ‘bias’ of ‘Fahrenheit 9/11’

We don’t need to be showing biased viewpoints in BISD.

DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener #157: Carrol Thomas

Building on the ignorance and narrow-mindedness of Michael Kurth, our latest DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener seems to have taken pandering to a whole new level. Heaven forbid that we should expose our children to disparate viewpoints and teach them how to think for themselves. No, we don’t want none of them there heathen Librul idjuts infecting the minds of our kids….

Silly me; here I’d always thought that free speech meant exactly that. Here in Texas, particularly in Trailer Park Nation, the Thought Police are working overtime…and they’re winning.

BEAUMONT - The Beaumont school superintendent assured parents Monday that Michael Moore’s film Fahrenheit 9/11 will not be shown again in district classrooms.

Carrol Thomas said the politically charged film, shown Friday at an alternative school, had no place in the Beaumont school system….

Parent Michael Kurth criticized the decision to show the movie, based on its R rating and political partisanship. His son Matthew, 17, said that he put his head on his desk and tried to sleep through it.

Moore’s condemnation of President Bush’s actions regarding the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon became the first documentary to top the $100 million mark domestically.

In the film, Moore examines the Bush administration’s alleged financial ties to Saudi Arabia and the bin Laden family.

Michael Ryals, principal of Pathways Learning Center, said he previewed part of the film before he allowed the teacher to show it in class.

Rather than keep in mind the mission of an educator, Thomas has caved into those whose demands for ideological purity extends to the one place that should be free of ideological filtering: our schools.

How are our children to make informed, intelligent decisions about their future if they are not exposed to multiple viewpoints? Should not part of the educational process be to teach children how to consider and evaluate ideas that may be unpopular or merely different? Of course, if their parents march in a fear- and ignorance-based ideological lockstep, it’s probably unreasonable to expect them to countenance their children being exposed to anything but the Fox New Channel/Republican party line. The truly sad thing here is that BISD has caved into pressure from those who seem to truly fear and loathe opposing viewpoints.

If your child attends school in the Beaumont Independent School District, you can rest easy this morning. Your child will not be exposed to any of them fruity Libruls and their One World lunacy. (Hey, Carrol, how long before you’re broadcasting Fox News Channel to every classroom??)

That sound you just heard was the Bill of Rights being shredded….
