Dopey and Grumpy play Liar's Poker

Bush, Cheney Concede Saddam Had No WMDs

It seems the time has come when not even the Prevaricator-in-Chief can deny what has become painfully obvious- that Saddam didn’t have WMDs. Saddam, in fact, didn’t even possess the means to produce WMDs. Not that that stopped George W. Bush from telling us that Hussein was a clear and present danger.

Of course, Dick Cheney seems to be sticking to his guns. Liars tend to do that. The problem with the best liars is that they eventually come to believe their lies. Convinced that they are telling the truth, they will advocate for their lies as if their life (or their political career) depends on it.

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush and his vice president conceded Thursday in the clearest terms yet that Saddam Hussein had no weapons of mass destruction, even as they tried to shift the Iraq war debate to a new issue - whether the invasion was justified because Saddam was abusing a U.N. oil-for-food program.

Ridiculing the Bush administration’s evolving rationale for war, Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry shot back: “You don’t make up or find reasons to go to war after the fact.”

Vice President Dick Cheney brushed aside the central findings of chief U.S. weapons hunter Charles Duelfer - that Saddam not only had no weapons of mass destruction and had not made any since 1991, but that he had no capability of making any either - while Bush unapologetically defended his decision to invade Iraq.

Perhaps NOW Americans will hold these two LIARS accountable for deceiving and manipulating this country into the wrong war at the wrong place and the wrong time? If only Americans were that demanding.
