Since the recent Presidential election, much has been made about the relative IQs of Bush voters vis-a-vis Kerry voters. While there is some interesting anecdotal evidence that, depending on your point of view, may or may not corroborate the contention that Kerry voters on average have higher IQs, I’m not at all sure what this is supposed to say about us as a society.
What I do know is that, now that the election is over, Democrats need to come to grips with the reality that WE LOST. We may be disappointed, and we may even be bitter, but the reality is what it is. Questioning the intelligence of Bush voters, while it may provide a temporary feeling of superiority, only serves to make us look small, supercilious, and every bit as intolerant as we accuse Republicans of being.
Until we can get past the name-calling and the not-so-thinly-veiled insults, we will never be able to determine how we can get back to the top of the mountain. Unless, of course, we are willing to settle for throwing mud and offending Republicans.
