Astros sign pitcher Franco to one-year deal
OK, so the Astros missed out on the Carlos Beltran sweepstakes. How to make things all better? How about going out and signing a 44-year-old pitcher? Now, I realize that John Franco is not your average 44-year-old reliever, and being 44 myself, I’m hardly one to engage in age discrimination. Still, signing Franco hardly creates the impression that the Astros are serious about winning the NL’s Central Division.
Hmm…no Wade Miller, no Carlos Beltran, no Jeff Kent…yeah, it’s looking as if the team that was on the brink of making it to last year’s World Series may be doing well to win 70 games this season.
