Gingrich doesn’t rule out presidential run
There are two things that will likely survive a nuclear blast: cockroaches and Newt Ginrich’s political dreams. Somehow, from the rubble will emerge Newt’s desire for political power and a place at the table. Perhaps it’s a late midlife crisis- the need to somehow feel desirable, vigorous, and relevant again. When one has grown accustomed to wielding power and inspiring dread and fear, I would imagine that becoming just a plain old, garden variety private citizen must be a real letdown- especially when one has an ego the size of Gingrich’s
Of course, the one sure way for a formerly washed-up politico to redeem his reputation and his virility again is to run for President. Never mind the fact that he cannot even be certain that anyone would actually vote for him, Newt Gingrich may find himself unable to resist the call to run. To some, the urge to run is like the mermaid’s song tempting them- only to ultimatley crash and break up on the rocky coast line. Gingrich, while undoubtedly a highly intelligent individual, has an ego overdeveloped enough to blind him to the awful reality.
Of course, for sheer comic relief, a Gingrich for President campaign could prove highly entertaining. It would sure beat the hell out of what the Bush-Kerry conflagration provided in terms of entertainment value. Part of me thinks it would be like waiting for a train wreck to occur…again and again and again….
Run, Newt, run. I need the laughs.
