Another DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener

Lesbian’s picture in tux banned from school yearbook

DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener #208: Sam Ward

Apparently, ignorance and intolerance never take a holiday, which means that I will always have something to write about. Sadly, it also means that said ignorance and intolerance will send exactly the wrong message to our children. Nothing like perpetuating the myth that some folks are less than human and deserved to be marginalized as such, eh?

If it had been a heterosexual female student dressed in a tuxedo, would this have even been an issue? Or was this merely an opportunity for Mr. Ward to demonstrate that “we don’t like your kind”? What, really, is the problem here- other than Mr. Ward saw a golden opportunity to give free reign to his prejudices?

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) รณ County school officials are backing a principal’s decision to bar a picture of a lesbian student dressed in a tuxedo from the high school yearbook.

Sam Ward, principal of Fleming Island High School, said he pulled the senior class picture because Kelli Davis was wearing boy’s clothes. His decision was debated Thursday at a Clay County school board meeting that drew 200 people, but the board took no action, and Superintendent David Owens said the decision will stand.

Most of the 24 people who spoke at the meeting supported Kelli Davis.

“This is not to be treated as a gay rights issue,” said her mother, Cindi Davis. “Rather it’s a human rights issue.”

Others applauded Ward’s decision, including Karen Gordon, who said, “When uniformity is compromised, then authority no longer holds.”

Ah, no wonder the Nazis were so successful, eh? When everyone thinks, acts, and looks the same, you’ll know that we as a society have achieved Hitler’s goal of creating the New Aryan Man. Since when do we expect our children to goosestep to the same drummer?? Whatever happened to celebrating and encouraging individual expression? If uniformity is the expectation, then in the end you will have a group of unthinking, unquestioning trolls who…oh, I don’t know…reflexively vote Republican?

It’s difficult to fathom the depths of ignorance and prejudice that leads to such small-mindedness. It’s more than enough that to earn Principal Sam Ward a DUMB@$$ AWARD, however. For displaying ignorance and intolerance far above and beyond the call of duty, Mr. Ward has clearly demonstrated his DUMB@$$ AWARD-worthiness.

Nice going, DUMB@$$….
