If I want to spend any time with Susan and Eric tonight, I’m going to be stuck watching the Oscars. If there is one thing I HATE, it’s faux competition concerning art. What is it about our culture that requires something to be the “best”? Isn’t art by it’s very nature highly subjective fare? And what is this obscene fascination with what the “stars” are wearing on the red carpet? The fawning media, the screaming throngs…. Part of me wants to scream “GET A FRIGGIN’ LIFE!! WAKE UP AND SMELL THE CAT LITTER!”
Award shows like the Oscars are, in my humble opinion, total, complete, and utter crap. Our national obsession with celebrity is something I simply cannot grasp. What is the fascination we hold with someone simply because they appear on a television or a movie screen? Are the lives of celebrities somehow more intrinsic valuable simply because of their talent, success, and/or lifestyle? How sad is that?
(Wait..the Oscars have a friggin’ PRE-GAME show???)
And how about the interviewers buttonholing stars as the walk the red carpet? Why not just issue kneepads to these maroons?
Outside of being a pointless, 4-hour marathon homage to the overhyped, overvalued, and insolently immature and petulant, I’m sure the Oscar broadcast has many positive and valuable to offer our society. I just can’t for the life of me think of any.
(Hey, was that the International House of Pancakes Boy’s Choir behind Beyonce??)

The Oscars would be far more interesting if it weren't a big old back patting fest. And they should give awards to the stuntmen so they could show some cool clips.
As it was, I didn't see a single movie that was nominated and therefore, I couldn't care less. Though I do like seeing the chickies showing up looking like 30 million bucks. And I LOVE the fashion mistakes!
