This week's sign that the Apocalypse is upon us

Martha Stewart to host ‘Apprentice’ spinoff

Well, it looks as if Martha Stewart isn’t going to have to worry about finding work once she gets out of prison. No, unlike most ex-cons who find they have to scrape by, Stewart already has a gig lined up.

To paraphrase an old Nat King Cole song….

Unoriginal…that’s what you are….

Martha Stewart may be in prison but she’s about to become a television star twice over. In addition to a previously announced syndicated weekday show for NBC, Stewart will host a prime-time spinoff of Donald Trump’s The Apprentice.

The Apprentice: Martha Stewart does not have a start date, but casting for the show will begin immediately, starting with auditions Friday in Houston and 26 other cities….

“I began discussing this idea with (Apprentice executive producer) Mark Burnett back when Martha had legal problems,” Trump said Wednesday. “I’m a good friend of Martha’s, I have been for a long time, and I learned something about her over the last couple of years: She’s a very brave woman. We think this will be a tremendous success.”

Burnett would not discuss details about the new show, other than to say it will be distinct from Trump’s and could begin shooting as soon as March, when Stewart begins her house arrest.

Yes, it’s always good to have rich and powerful friends, no? It’s true; the rich really ARE different. They tend to look out for one another.

Of course, given that Trump’s Apprentice has jumped the shark, it’s debatable whether Stewart’s version will be a departure or simply the same tired, formulaic crap. Trump’s first Apprentice actually had something fresh and different to offer (if that can actually be said about a “reality show”). Seasons 2 & 3 have become progressively more tiresome and pedantic. I can no longer bring myself to sit through an episode. Using the same formula doesn’t look to bode well for Stewart. Of course, a girl’s got to be able to do something to keep her probation officer happy, no?
