BTK killer to represent self in lawsuits

It’s been said that anyone who defends himself in a legal proceeding has a fool for a client. Or, in the case of Wichita’s admitted BTK killer Dennis Rader, he has an astoudingly arrogant fool for a client. Of course, it’s not as if Rader will ever see the light of day as a free man again, and if Kansas has the death penalty (I honestly have no idea whether they do or not), he may not have much time left on this Earth. So, somewhere in his sick, twisted imagination, he probably figures this is just one more opportunity to put the screws to the families of his victims.
Hey, it’s not like he has anything else to look forward to these days….
In a courtroom confession last month, Rader, 60, said sexual fantasies drove him to kill 10 people in the Wichita area between 1974 and 1991. As BTK ó his own moniker, which stands for “Bind, Torture, Kill” ó he taunted media and police in communications that eventually led to his arrest. His sentencing is set for Aug. 17.
I’ve got an idea. How about we save the good, God-fearing taxpayers of Kansas a bunch of money and just turn Rader over to the families of his victims? I have a feeling they’ll take care of business faster than any lethal injection possibly could- and at a much lower cost.

Because the next time, it will be you they come for.
In an imperfect world, with emotions raging, acting on revenge fantasies cannot be controlled. And do you of all people really want to hand Bush's mobs the authority to carry out "cruel and unusual punishments"? With your blog, how long do you think you'd last? Don't jaywalk or it's over.
It's worse than that, though. How many dozens of historical examples do we need?--sooner or later, taking shortcuts always ends up in punishing before proof of guilt.
The criminal legal process is inefficient, but it is the only protection against our worst instincts. It is expensive, and the best money we could spend. Otherwise: Hey, you dig up the truth in Africa, we blow your wife's cover. And you--you spent any time with a 4-year-old recently?--uh huh, obviously something's going on here, so we're turning you over to the family so they can spend a few days applying razors and blowtorches to your filthy self. Nice world you and Bush are working toward.
Perhaps you failed to notice my tongue firmly implanted in my cheek...or perhaps I simply didn't make it clear enough.
Icky-ta is my hometown. I believe Rader will not get the death penalty because of a plea for not going to trial, or because it was not applicable in the years he committed the crimes.
People in Valley Center and Park City have been complaining about him (he was an animal control/ordinance enforcement officer) for years, for harassing (mostly female) people. Even my best friend had a few run-ins with him until her husband (a firefighter) threatened to kick Rader's ass if he ever showed up on their property again. Park City ignored the complaints and let this guy go on harassing the women in the county.
Guess where Rader has hidden his evidence all of these years? You guessed it: in his Park City office.
I hope Park City gets sued sued SUED. If they had any concern for public safety, they would have listened to the complaints and investigated, possibly finding this guy years sooner.
