Good news...at least for us

Williamsburg, VA

Well, it would appear that we have a house to return to. After losing a good deal of sleep last night while we watched CNN, Susan talked to our neighbor this morning. Not only did our neighborhood not even lose power, it appears that their home and ours are both largely intact. For the first time in four days, I feel as if I can stop worrying. Our neighbor is goind to email some pictures of our house to us so we can check things out, but it would appear that we escaped what could have been an absolute nightmare. We’ve lost some tree branches and perhaps some shingles, but that, so far at least, seems to be the worst of it.

All I really know about is our little corner of Paradise, but there are areas of Houston/Galveston that were hit pretty hard. I’ve heard reports of a large fire on the Strand in Galveston and there has been some serious flooding. I would imagine that the normally flood-prone areas are underwater, but it certainly sounds as if things could have been much worse. We could have been in Beaumont/Port Arthur.

Stay tuned….

We live in Seabrook too. Do you know if all the subdivisions in town survived with no flooding? We live in Lake Cove.

Coming late to the party again; Houston/Harris Co. officials are asking people not to rush back. Looks like the storm hooked up inland over Jasper towards Lake Charles (what did Louisiana ever do to the gods?).

I'm relieved. It sounds as though your home is still intact, waiting for your return. By the way, I may have missed a post from you on this; what did you do with your animals? Are they OK?

All the best to you, post-Rita
