It’s beginning to look as if it may not be the end of the world in our neck of the woods. Over the past 24 hours, the path of Hurricane Rita has shifted to the east, meaning that Seabrook will likely be spared a direct hit. It’s beginning to appear that we will have a home to return to. The next few hours will be key, but each forecast seems to bring our area better news. Unfortunately, this means that the Beaumont/Port Arthur/Lake Charles area will be getting the direct hit that the Houston/Galveston area will be spared.
I’m very happy that Seabrook will likely be spared the worst of the storm, but I am saddened that many people in extreme southeast Texas will be getting hammered. Of course, I’m not assuming anything until Rita has passed, and by this time tomorrow night, we’ll have a much better idea of where we- and most everyone else in southeast Texas- stands. Stay tuned….

I grew up in Seabrook, off of Todville Road. One brother still is there. My mother never quite resolved how to wish (pray, for her) during a coming hurricane. She didn't want it to hit us, but didn't feel quite right about hoping for that at the expense of others. Neverthe less, I'm glad Seabrook was mostly spared this time around. At least you have notice a hurricane is coming and can make some plans - those in areas prone to tornado and earthquake take the hit on minimal notice usually.
