Get your kneepads at the door, y'all....

Lobbyists plan event for DeLay

Yes, he may be corrupt. Yes, he may be venal. Yes, he may even be the most nakedly ambitious Republican and perhaps even the most powerful man in Washington. Until (and) unless Tom DeLay’s convicted, lobbyists and other looking to massage the political process will continue to perform the political equivalent of fellatio upon him, because they recognize that if DeLay is acquitted, his power and influence will be virtually unimaginable and without limits.

Even though DeLay may be looking at a future involving an orange jumpsuit and a “girlfriend” named Butch, there are still pleny of well-heeled lobbyists lined up to buy influence blow him contribute to his campaign war chest. DeLay, if he is acquitted, will feel vindicated, and his power and thirst for vengeance will no know bounds (and he calls himself a Christian?)

WASHINGTON - The capital’s most prominent Republican lobbyists are going out of their way Thursday to show their support ‚Äö√Ñ√Æ financial and personal ‚Äö√Ñ√Æ for former House majority leader Tom DeLay, R-Sugar Land.

More than five dozen lobbyists are named as members of the host committee for a fund-raising reception in Washington to benefit DeLay’s re-election campaign. The event is expected to be the largest fundraiser for a single member of Congress this year.

Host committee members are expected to give the maximum $2,100 personal contribution or to raise $5,000 for DeLay’s re-election.

The fundraiser was organized by some of DeLay’s staffers-turned-lobbyists after his indictment in September.

So who says Washington isn’t a revolving door? Being a staffer for Tom DeLay means that at some point down the road you’re virtually guaranteed a high-paying job as a K Street lobbyist. And that means, of course, that at some point you’re going to be expected to repay your former boss’ generosity. Ah, ‘tis true’, no? ‘Tis truly better to give than receive.

And you thought this was supposed to be about doing the People’s business? Time to lose the naivete, no? It has, and always will be, about power and money, the mother’s milk of politics- and few have spent more time sucking at the teat than Tom DeLay.
