There is really only one thing I want to find out here: if former (and apparently current) DUMB@$$ Debra Lafave had been a 24-year-old male teacher, would she/he have been afforded the same punishment for boinking and underage student? If you’re saying “yes, of course” with a straight face, I want to smoke what you’ve been smoking. Let’s review the facts of the case here: a horny, 24-year-old female teacher has sex with an underage male student on several occasions and in several places (including the back of a car while the boy’s 15-year-old cousin drove them around). Because she represents every teenage boy’s fantasy (Hey, in 10th grade, I wanted to do my English teacher, Mrs. Arnold…what can I say?), and because she is “too pretty to go to jail (as her attorney previously claimed), she has been sentenced to three years’ house arrest. WTF??
(CNN) — In a last-minute effort to keep herself out of prison, a 25-year-old middle school teacher pleaded guilty Tuesday to having sex with a 14-year-old.
Debra Lafave, a former remedial reading teacher at Greco Middle School in Temple Terrace, Florida, pleaded guilty to two counts of lewd and lascivious behavior, and was sentenced to three years of house arrest followed by seven years probation. She also must register as a sex offender.
She could have faced up to 15 years for each count filed in Hillsborough County. She also could have been charged in Marion County, because one of the incidents happened there.
“I want to apologize to the court, to the young man involved and to his family for my actions,” Lafave said. “I accept full responsibility for my actions, and I am very sorry for everything which has occurred.”
A 14-year-old boy told investigators he had sex with Lafave three times in four days in June 2004, according to court documents. One of those times was in a car while his 15-year-old cousin drove them around, he told authorities.
He also said she performed oral sex on him multiple times, including once at her home, the documents said.
Damn…clearly, I went to the wrong school….
I can’t help but wonder what the sentence would have been if the genders of the involved parties were reversed, though. If the teacher was male, and the student female, the teacher would as we speak getting acquainted with his new cellmate, Butch, and he’d be in the midst of being passed around like a box of Valentine candy. So why the obvious double standard? In this case, it appears Ms. DUMB@$$ was fortunate enough to highlight the reality that his client is a young, hot female who is simply “too pretty to go to prison”. That the victim’s (though I have a hard time thinking he sees himself as a “victim”) parents signed off on the sentence, it is still a miscarriage of justice. If Ms. DUMB@$$ Lafave was a 45-year-old slatternly matron, she’d be wearing an orange jumpsuit and picking up trash alongside a Florida highway.
