Who's revising history now?

Bush takes on critics of Iraq war: President says war is central to fight against terrorism

Bush takes on war critics: Accuses them of undercutting America’s armed forces

Bush Attacks Critics of His Iraq War Policy

President’s Veterans Day Speech

While it’s perfectly legitimate to criticize my decision or the conduct of the war, it is deeply irresponsible to rewrite the history of how that war began. Some Democrats and anti-war critics are now claiming we manipulated the intelligence and misled the American people about why we went to war. They also know that intelligence agencies from around the world agreed with our assessment of Saddam Hussein. These baseless attacks send the wrong signal to our troops and to an enemy that is questioning America’s will.

  • George W. Bush

The unfortunate thing about being a lousy liar is that eventually you begin to believe your own half-truths and prevarications. Distinguishing between reality, spin, and outright falsehoods become virtually impossible as you begin to believe whatever version of reality rolls off your tongue. You begin to think that the spin, the lies, and the fabricated “truth” you’ve been feeding others is Gospel, and you lose the ability to discern and parse truth from lies, because the truth is whatever you want it to be. So it is with Our Glorious Leader, whose crowning achievement in the propaganda battle is to accuse his detractors of “revising history”. That the Prevaricator in Chief can make this accusation with a straight face is a stunning display of chutzpah. I know he’s lying, YOU know he’s lying, and at some level even HE must know that he’s lying, but damned if he isn’t plowing full speed ahead, repeating the Big Lie and accusing those of us who know the truth of being the ones guilty of engaging in revisionist history. Man, that takes some balls, doesn’t it?

In a sick, twisted way, I actually admire the C Student in Chief for the way he employs the “Those Who Are Not With Us Are Supporting The Terrorists” defense. Never mind that this is still allegedly a free country, and the free expression of opinion is one of the things George W. Bush was elected to defend. What can be more American than calling the President of the United States a blithering idiot? Especially when it’s true? Talk about not “getting it”. Watching Bush’s speech yesterday was reminiscent of watching a cornered child lash out at his tormenters. You’ve got him cornered, he knows he’s cornered, but sure enough, he’s going to go on the offensive in an effort to deflect the blame on those who know he’s cornered. Call it the political equivalent of yelling “FIRE!!” in a crowded theater.

Somehow, Our Glorious Leader has convinced himself that he is Fighting the Good Fight. In his pointy li’l head, the war in Iraq is central to the war on terror. Never mind the fact that the insurgency in Iraq is a direct result of the American invasion and occupation of Iraq. Yep, we created our own terrorist threat, which we now must fight because…well, isn’t that what Presidents do? The tragedy in this is sorry scenario that Bush’s diatribe came on Veteran’s Day, a day set aside to honor those who have given their lives in the service of their country. For the Prevaricator in Chief to turn his speech into an impassioned defense of his failed Iraq policy only goes to show what an ignorant, classless fool the man is. Instead of honoring those who have died in this country’s wars, he goes on the offensive against those he believes are “rewriting history”. Clearly, the latest White House strategy for reforming this failed Presidency is to have their man go on the offensive. That doing so on Veteran’s Day was both offensive and disrespectful seems to matter not a whit.

I hope the 51% of you who voted for Bush are pleased with yourselves, because you are every bit as much to blame for this travesty as he is. WE DESERVE BETTER, but you were willing to give a man who stole an election and started a war based on lies and fabricated intelligence four more years to divide and defraud this country. If you think I’m kidding, try this question on for size- HOW MANY WMDs HAVE BEEN FOUND IN IRAQ? Enough said….
