Another DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener

Driver stripped of license in deaths of 2 girls

DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener #332: Thomas Roy Kennedy

I often use the DUMB@$$ AWARDS to poke at fun imbeciles, morons, and those just too stupid for their (and ultimately our) own good. There is nothing even remotely amusing about the actions that earned Thomas Roy Kennedy his DUMB@$$ AWARD. There is nothing funny about driving drunk, though Kennedy clearly has earned his award- to his everlasting shame. Of course, being a DUMB@$$, Kennedy probably still doesn’t grasp the reality and finality of what he has done.

Because Kennedy was too stupid and irresponsible to recognize that he was too inebriated to safely operate a motor vehicle, two students at Seabrook Intermediate School are dead. A 12- and a 14-year-old girl will never go to their prom, never go to college, never marry or raise families. Because Kennedy refused to recognize his responsibility to those around him, the families of these two beautiful young girls will be celebrating this Christmas with heavy hearts. Parents should never have to bury their children, but when their children are murdered by someone too drunk and stupid to care for anyone but himself…well, if there was ever to be a convincing argument for the death penalty, this would be it. If I were King of the World, I’d even let the parents choose the method of execution, and I’d give them the option of conducting the proceedings themselves. They deserve nothing less.

Thomas Roy Kennedy, 21, is charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter in connection with the 12- and 14-year-old girls’ deaths just after midnight Saturday in the 8500 block of the Gulf Freeway. Three others were injured: a 17-year-old boy, a 14-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy….

Prosecutor Kari Allen said Kennedy had been drinking and was driving home from a topless bar when the collision occurred.

Kennedy’s attorney, Tom Martin, said he had not spoken with his client about where he had been or what he had been doing before the accident.

According to police, Kennedy was driving a Ford pickup when it swerved across lanes of traffic and slammed into a Chevrolet Cavalier, which was parked in the emergency lane.

The car’s driver, the 17-year-old, had pulled to the shoulder and called his father for help after running out of gas, police said.

Because the driver of the car did the right thing, he ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Because the driver did the right thing, Thomas Roy Kennedy, a thoroughly inept and forgettable soul if ever there was one, now has his 15 minutes. Yes, we all know who Thomas Roy Kennedy is, and two Seabrook families are short a daughter. Even if Kennedy is ever man enough to own up to his stupidity and irresponsibility, who is going to make these families whole again? Since these families never can be made whole, what right does Kennedy have to ever harbor ANY hope of walking this Earth a free man again?

Two counts of intoxication manslaughter? Forty years at the most? I’m sorry, but if what Kennedy did cannot be characterized as capital murder, then there really is no justice available to the two bereaved families. This was murder, pure and simple…and if Kennedy cannot be executed, he should be locked up with no conceivable hope of parole- and the photos of the two girls he murdered should be permanently attached to the walls of his cell, where he will see them every single day of his miserable, pointless life.
