When it comes to bestowing the coveted DUMB@$$ AWARDS, I normally avoid (dis)honoring other bloggers. After all, we all know what opinions are like, and I don’t really expect anyone to agree with me. It’s my sandbox, my righteous anger, and if you don’t like it, you can go pound sand- or get your own damn weblog. Of course, Kevin Baker has his own weblog, and while I respect his right to spew forth his opinion, he represents everything that is wrong with the blogosphere.
When another blogger happens to stoop to the level of personal attacks, that is where I draw the line. That is why Kevin Baker, the holier, smarter, and worthier than thou curator of the museum of bigotry, intolerance, and Wingnuttery that is The Smallest Minority is our latest wiener of the (not necessarily) coveted DUMB@$$ AWARD. Baker is not merely your basic, run-of-the-mill hater of all things Progressive/Liberal. No, Baker feels it perfectly acceptable to insult and demean those who do not agree with him, simply because they are not Enlightened enough to agree with him. In doing so, he merely reveals himself to be a troll of the first order.
I try very hard to be a reasonable sort, but when confronted with self-righteous bigotry, it’s a very difficult thing to do. Normally, I would simply ignore someone of Baker’s ilk. There are times, though, when one must shine lights on cockroaches. No, I’m not comparing Baker to a cockroach, but if you choose to make the connection…. All I’m saying is that ignoring ignorance, arrogance, and bigotry is why this country is run by criminals, thugs, and those who view the Constitution as merely a piece of paper.
In true compassionate, inclusive, diversity-embracing Leftist style, Jack’s most recent post suggests that he’s in favor of the homosexual rape of prisoners by prison guards. So long as the rape victim is a Republican.
Yep, there is nothing quite like taking a minimum of information, twisting it to suit your purpose, and drawing a maximum conclusion. I suppose on some level, I should feel honored that someone feels so threatened by me that he feels the need to engage in this kind of silliness in what can only be described as a thoroughly ridiculous attempt to discredit me. Yes, Baker’s first mistake is assuming that I even care. The only reason I’m giving him his 15 minutes on TPRS is that I believe that there are times when one has to call out ignorance and bigotry for what it truly is.
Getting blatantly lied to generally does it. People displaying ignorance, on the other hand, just piques me a bit. But when someone takes ignorance, ingests just enough fact, and then
regurgitates- let’s not pussyfoot - vomits their asshole opinion, sometimes that’s enough.
Gee, there’s nothing like a polite difference of opinion, is there? No, Baker is more than willing to employ a maximum of insult and vilification while employing a minimum of reason and decency. I suppose it’s easier to spread ignorance and vilification than it is to attempt to refute an argument with reason and decorum.
Here’s a hot tip, Kevin: ‘Tis better to be thought an vindictive, mean-spirited troll than to spew forth and remove all doubt. And yes, at this point there is little doubt that Kevin Baker cares little for opinions that don’t dovetail with his own narrow, Amerika uber Alles ideology.
I don’t dislike Kevin Baker; I don’t even know the man. Frankly, I’m not going to waste energy on hating someone without at least having met them. If I’m ever in Tucson, I might even be willing to go shooting with him. After all, I grew up in an NRA family, and I’m a former US Army Reserve Military Police Officer. Having said that, I wsee no reason to brook the sort of unprovoked ignorant, hate-filled rant that Baker seems to feel is perfectly acceptable.
Kevin Baker is everything that is wrong with the blogosphere. Ignorant, short-sighted, intolerant, and disturbingly self-righteous, Baker is the sort of Ugly American that makes the rest of us look like self-centered, arrogant, insenstive @$$holes. Still, this is a free country, and I respect his right to spread his opinion…even if it does make him look like a fool.
I value reasonableness, and if I thought there was any value in carrying on a debate with Baker I would. Judging by his holier than thou screeds, though, I’d have better luck trying to debate my dogs. Kevin Baker is living proof that Conservatism can all too often be described as the sound of a mind slamming shut. THAT is why Baker richly deserves his DUMB@$$ AWARD. And this is the last time you will ever read anything about him on TPRS. Good riddance….
