Merry %&($)#@ Holidays/Christmas/Xmas/Kwanzaa/Hannukah/Day Before Boxing Day

WWJD? Not care about card uproar

Merry Christmas or else: Push to get retailers to drop ‘holiday’ language grows stronger, louder

Of all the stupid, misguided, near-sighted, half-assed issues that we could reasonably be worried about this Christmas, some Christians have their panties in a wad over the use of “Happy Holidays”. To these folks narrow way of thinking, “Happy Holidays” is a bald-faced attempt to remove “Christmas” from the holiday lexicon. No, “Happy Holidays” isn’t just a way to recognize that there are others besides Christians who celebrate this Holiday season…it’s a nefarious plot forced upon good, God-fearing white Christians by the same godless stromtroopers who brought us “Xmas”. HORRORS…OH, THE HUMANITY!!!

Most of the folks have focused their heavy artillery on the annual White House Christmas Xmas Kwanzaa Hannukah Holiday Day Before Boxing Day card. Never mind the fact that the White House is cognizant of the fact that many of the card’s recipients are not Christians. Never mind that the White House actually wants to be inclusive. Never mind that this is one of the few things that the Bush Administration ACTUALLY GOT RIGHT. (And how often do you think you’re going to hear me say THAT about this corrupt, dishonest, murderous Administration??)

Peace on earth? Not likely, with the Christmas cultural wars heating up.

Conservative talk show hosts have joined evangelical Christian groups in pressuring major retailers to use “Christmas” instead of the generic holiday language in advertising and store signs.

Meanwhile, the Rev. Jerry Falwell, a leader in the retail campaign, is criticizing some fellow evangelical pastors for deciding not to hold services on Christmas, which this year falls on a Sunday.

Even President Bush and first lady Laura Bush have been chided for sending out a seasonal greeting card that doesn’t mention Jesus or Christmas.

Again, since an American President is supposed to represent ALL Americans, and since ALL Americans are (thankfully) not Christians, and since taxpayer dollars likely were involved in producing the Christmas Xmas Kwanzaa Hannukah Holiday Day Before Boxing Day card, perhaps we should be applauding this Administration for maintaining the separation of Church and State as well as recognizing that this is a holiday season for more than just Christians. After all, it’s not as if Our Glorious Leader hasn’t spent most of his time in office trying to remake the federal government into a bastion of Born Again Evangelical Republicanism.

Still, several high-profile individuals and groups are arguing that sensitivity has yielded to political correctness, with Christmas being the victim.

Along with Mr. Falwell, Fox News Channel talk show host Bill O’Reilly has taken up the cause. So have a handful of Christian legal and lobbying organizations, including the Catholic League, and the California-based “Committee to Save Merry Christmas.”

Yeah, right…Bill O’Reilly and the Catholic League- two shining examples of tolerance, reason, and open-mindedness. O’Reilly never met a camera he couldn’t make love to, nor an issue he couldn’t flog if meant increased ratings. The Catholic League? Well, let’s not get me started on those charmless, intolerant, compassion-starved miscreants. These are the same folks who would have elevated Terri Schiavo to sainthood if given half a chance…and yes, these are the same folks who would condemn rape victims to carry a baby produced by a rape to term. OK…I said I wasn’t going to get started on them, didn’t I??

IF you think that all other problems facing this world have been solved, then feel free to go after the White House Christmas Xmas Kwanzaa Hannukah Holiday Day Before Boxing Day card, Target, WalMart, or whoever else you think is turning this season into a godlessly capitalistic celebration (And it’s not as if THAT hasn’t happened before….). The rest of us will be out here trying to figure out how to make the world a better place.

Merry %&($)#@ Holidays/Christmas/Kwanzaa/Hannukah/Day Before Boxing Day, y’all….
