You know they're in trouble when the media is trotting out the Nixon war references, or "So how's that Vietnamization thing working out?"

Poll: Most doubt Bush has plan for Iraq victory

In his speech President Bush said we need to rebuild Iraq, provide the people with jobs, and give them hope. If it works there maybe we’ll try it in New Orleans.”

You know this Administration is in trouble when the marketing strategy changes…repeatedly. How to sell the war in Iraq to the American sheeple? Hmm…using 9.11 as justification didn’t work so well, and it’s not as if any WMDs were located. “Fighting terrorists in the streets of Baghdad instead of the streets of New York” didn’t go over so well. “Protecting America’s freedoms”? Well, no one’s really buying that, either. Selling the Iraq war as “serving the cause of peace”, “staying the course”, or “planting the seeds of democracy”? Eh…not so much. Of course, now that we have a “strategy for victory”, surely the winds of propaganda will blow favorably for Our Glorious Leader…or not. Of course, if the Administration is just now promulgating their “National Strategy for Victory in Iraq”, what in the Hell has this President been doing for the past three years- playing “risk”??

The sad thing about the war in Iraq is that I truly believe that in some dark recess of his pointy li’l head, the Prevaricator in Chief knows that he has completely bollixed up the war in Iraq. Now, of course, he’s in so deep that there is no turning back without sinking his Presidency and torpedoing his legacy. No President wants to go down in history as having lied his way into a war and then proceeding to come f—k up the conduct of that war. Frankly, campaigning for “staying the course” is the only option the C Student in Chief has left. To admit to his folly would be to admit that he has wasted the lives of more than 2,000 (and counting) soldiers. It would mean having to answer to the families and loved ones of those soldiers, who will all sorts of pissed off once their President admits that they’ve died for nothing. Our men and women in uniform have done everything asked of them willingly, ably, and professionally, but in the final analysis their sacrifices have been for nothing…and that is the real crime here.

I’m not normally one to moralize, but when you sleep with rats, you’re going to have to expect to get gnawed on. It may be trite, but it’s true- cheaters never prosper, and eventually you’re lies will catch up with you. Most of us who have had to learn this lesson didn’t steal an election or become responsible for the deaths of numerous young Americans. Of course, if we had, we’d be doing hard time in a federal prison. Our Glorious Leader? He’s a Republican, so he can count on having statues erected to commemorate his insightful and wise leadership. Hey, at least he didn’t get his helmet polished by an intern.

(CNN) — As President Bush launched a new effort Wednesday to gain public support for the Iraq war, a new poll found most Americans do not believe he has a plan that will achieve victory.

But the CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll released Wednesday night also found nearly six in 10 Americans said U.S. troops should not be withdrawn from Iraq until certain goals are achieved.

Just 35 percent wanted to set a specific timetable for their exit, as some critics of the war have suggested….

Among poll respondents, 55 percent said they did not believe Bush has a plan that will achieve victory for the United States in Iraq; 41 percent thought he did….

Asked about Bush’s handling of the Iraq war, 54 percent said it was poor, while 44 percent thought he was doing a good job.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice….

Of course, a goodly number of the people who have discovered that it’s time to WAKE UP AND SMELL THE CAT LITTER voted for Our Glorious Leader- twice, so for them to claim to be upset is rather disingenuous. 51% of y’all voted for Bush in November, 2004, so you are every bit as culpable. After all, YOU failed to pay attention. YOU failed to recognize the colossal clusterf—k that is Iraq. YOU failed in your responsibility to protect this country from criminals and despots. Then again, voting Republican IS easier than thinking….

Of course, it’s not as if Democrats put forward a candidate with charisma and foresight….

Perhaps the real problem here is that the Bush Administration just needs a new advertising agency. It’s not like they’re getting their message (where it happens to be today) out on their own.
