It’s true; human stupidity is the gift that keeps on giving, a barrel with no discernable bottom. Those (not so) select few who have been (un)fortunate enough to win a DUMB@$$ often go on to bigger, better, and even significantly more intellectually-challenged things than what won them their DUMB@$$ AWARD in the first place. Then there are those trolls who have no problem with capitalizing on the suffering of others for their own self-aggrandizement. Truly, it would seem that being a DUMB@$$ is not a destination. It’s a journey, and it’s taken the sad tale of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to point this out.
Sharon has suffered a massive stroke that has him fighting for his life. It almost certainly will end his political career, which right now is the least of his problems. If he survives, he will have a tough road in front of him, as anyone who has a loved one who is a stroke survivor can attest.
You’d think that a tragedy such as Sharon’s would elicit words of support and compassion from public figures around the world, and for the most part it has. There are a couple notable exceptions, however- both DUMB@$$E$ par excellence: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (#312, 10.29.05), and the Rev. Pat Robertson (#285, 8.24.05).
Rev. Robertson, whose (complete lack of) intellectual agility I have discoursed on at some length many times previously, may have topped himself with this display of self-righteous demagoguery. Even with all of the stupid, ill-advised, and horribly insensitive things he has said over the years (advocating for the invasion of Venezuela, condeming the voters of Dover, PA, etc., ad infinitum, ad nauseum….), THIS tops everything:

The founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network told viewers of “The 700 Club” that Sharon was “dividing God’s land,” even though the Bible says doing so invites “God’s enmity.”
Robertson added, “I would say woe to any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course.”
He noted that former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated.
Robertson said God’s message is, “This land belongs to me. You’d better leave it alone.”
You know, if you have to wait for Robertson to channel God for you, don’t you think you’d be better off being an atheist? Or a serial killer?? Or on life support?
And then, as if Robertson’s lunacy wasn’t insensitive and offensive enough, get ready for Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who wouldn’t know compassion if it bit him on the ass:
TEHRAN, Iran - Iran’s president said Thursday he hoped for the death of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, the latest anti-Israeli comment by a leader who has already provoked international criticism for suggesting that Israel be “wiped off the map.”
“Hopefully, the news that the criminal of Sabra and Chatilla has joined his ancestors is final,” President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying by the semiofficial Iranian Students News Agency.
And, just in case any of y’all might have been doubting Ahmadinejad’s qualifications as a true DUMB@$$….
“Hopefully, others (criminals like him) will join him too,” ISNA quoted Ahmadinejad as telling a group of clerics in Qom, a holy city 80 miles south of the capital, Tehran. He spoke a day after the 77-year-old Sharon suffered a massive stroke and underwent surgery.
In the last two months, Ahmadinejad has called the Holocaust a “myth” and said if Europeans insist it did occur, then they should give some of their own land for a Jewish state, rather than the one in the Middle East.
My God, how do these trolls keep track of all the contradictions? One, a man of God, the other, a devoted Muslim…and neither one seems to understand that neither of their religions countenance narrow-minded bigotry…never mind a complete and total lack of compassion. Ah, well…better to be thought a DUMB@$$ than to open your mouth and be handed your very own DUMB@$$ AWARD, eh?
