Poison Justice Stevens, Coulter jokes
LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (AP) — Conservative commentator Ann Coulter, speaking at a traditionally black college, joked that Justice John Paul Stevens should be poisoned.
And if James Carville had joked about doing the same thing to Antonin Scalia or Clarence Thomas, can you IMAGINE the hue and cry, the weeping and gnashing of teeth, the breast-beating and the pontificating that would be taking place? No, I don’t think you can. The conniptions and paroxysms of righteous indignation would be truly impressive, complete with Republicans popping veins in their foreheads and straining their pacemakers to their breaking points.
So why is Coulter’s tastless idiocy drawing barely a ripple in the mainstream media? Must be that damn Liberal media, eh?? What a load of crap….
Yes, Coulter is free to say what is on her mind, however tasteless or inflammatory, or just plain STUPID it may be. The sad thing, though, is that Coulter will suffer no consequences for her idiocy. That would NOT be the case were the same thing to be said by a Liberal pundit. Right-wing nutjobs from Rush Limbaugh to Chris Matthews to Brit Hume would be all over the airwaves, demanding justice, an apology, and the offender’s head delivered to them on a platter. Right-wing hypocrisy knows no bounds.
Coulter had told the Philander Smith College audience Thursday that more conservative justices were needed on the Supreme Court to change the current law on abortion.
Stevens is one of the court’s most liberal members.
“We need somebody to put rat poisoning in Justice Stevens’ creme brulee,” Coulter said. “That’s just a joke, for you in the media.”
Strangely enough, no one seems to be laughing. Of course, Coulter has never been one to much care about what anyone thinks of her or her opinions. In her mind, she is a superior intellect and therefore entitled to look down upon those she deems intellectually “deficient”, which pretty much encompasses everyone left of center.
I believe in free speech, and I understand the free speech can and often is offensive speech…and it doesn’t get much more offensive than virtually anything Ann Coulter has to say. The truly sad thing about Coulter is that her career is built on divisiveness, personal insult, and a complete lack of basic human civility. Nice work if you can get it, I suppose, but you’d think that she’d be able to make her case without stooping to such highly offensive and disruptive behavior. Then again, that’s why she’s a former DUMB@$$ AWARD wiener.
