Greetings from the feeding frenzy (Or how I learned to love Ann Coulter)

Perry says Republicans spending like Democrats

US Vice President Dick Cheney attends conference where keynote speaker calls Muslims “ragheads”

Republican Chief Outlines 2006 Strategy

Isn’t that special? The darling of the Republican party makes racial slurs against Muslims at a time when Muslisms are rioting over, well, racial slurs all over the world, attacking and killing people - so Ann thought it would be funny to whip things up a little more. Then she jokes about murdering a former president and blowing up the Supreme Court - things that get you investigated normally in America - but I guess Ann figured out the way around that: just make sure the Vice President of the United States is lending his good name to the conference too.

There are few things more stomach-churningly disturbing than watching Conservatives letting their hair down. Yes, in their natural environment we discover what knuckle-dragging troglodytes some of these folks truly are. What “natural environment”, you ask? Well, how about the Conservative Action Political Conference, the largest gathering of American Conservatives known to mankind (and where rabid Bush-worshippers learn that liberals hate America and that we really did find WMD in Iraq)? Even if you don’t share the political beliefs of these trolls, the sheer entertainment value of CAPC is absolutely through the roof. It’s not often you get so many zealots together under one roof.

It’s not pretty, but these folks are members of the majority party…which, I might remind y’all, YOU put into power. So, if you voted Republican in any of the last three biennial elections, guess who’s to blame for providing these egomaniacal, self-absorbed, know-it-alls with the reigns of power? Yep…that would be YOU. Still glad you voted Republican? Still think they’re the party of the working man and the middle class? Still taking your medication to control those delusions? I didn’t think so….

Oh, sure, you get the occasional sort-of-serious policy addresses like that of Governor Goodhair, who complains that Republicans are spending like Democrats:

WASHINGTON — Texas Gov. Rick Perry took some jabs at his own party today, telling a conservative group that Republicans are spending like Democrats and may be in jeopardy for doing so.

He criticized the tens of thousands of earmarks — the congressional term for pet projects — passed in 2004.

Perry said “the public expects Democrats to spend because that’s what they do.”

“On the other hand, they elect Republicans to stop that from happening, and if Republicans keep spending like Democrats, the public will elect the real thing,” Perry said in a speech to the Conservative Action Political Conference. The group billed the conference as the largest gathering of conservatives.

“It seems as if conservatives won the war at the ballot box and then let the opposition keep most of the land,” he said.

Well, to be honest, Governor, there are no Deomcrats involved here. Republicans are spending like, well, Republicans. Perhaps it’s time that the GOP begins to take responsibility for it’s own shortcomings and irresponsibility, instead of trying invoke the specter of evil Democrats. YOUR party controls the Executivce branch and both Houses of Congress. YOUR party controls the purse strings. If anything is out of control, it’s the fault of Republicans. It’s time y’all took responsibility for your own self-interest and profligacy instead of trying to smear Democrats, hmm??

Of course, policy matters aren’t nearly as entertaining as some of the keynote speakers, most notably Ann Coulter, who as usual cares not a whit for whom she offends nor how she goes about it.

Interesting, isn’t? You get a bunch of Conservatives together, they let their hair down, and then they proceed to engage in the very sort of behavior they DEPLORE when the perceive even a whiff of it coming from Liberals. Intolerance? Insensitivity? Ignorance? Xenophobia? Cherished Conservative values all, but by God if they sense that a Liberal might be engaging in this sort of nonsense….yes, there will be HELL to pay….

Oh, and did I forget to mention that hypocrisy is also apparently a cherished Conservative value?

The truly interesting aspect of CAPC is that we get to see Conservatives as they truly are- selfish, intolerant, xenophobic, mean-spirited, intellectually stilted…stop me if you’re heard enough, because I can keep going….

What makes this conclave even more disturbing is that the presence of Vice President Dick Cheney effectively gives CAPC the official blessing of the Bush Administration (when he’s not shooting hunters), which is interesting for a President who talks so much about elevating the level of political discourse. The reality is that the only level of political discourse that Our Glorious Leader and the rest of BushCo are interested in elevating is that which advances their interests and those of their well-heeled and well-connected supporters and their Amerika uber Alles ideology.

Whenever any of y’all start to think that maybe I’m being somewhat harsh when it comes to Our Glorious Leader, keep CAPC in mind…and don’t forget about Ann Coulter. The fact that no one present at CAPC condemned her hateful vitriol can be taken to mean that Conservatives support that point of view…they just don’t have the balls to say the words themselves, because they have to at least maintain the illusion of being inclusive, when in fact they don’t give a rat’s @$$ about anything except money and power.

WE DESERVE BETTER.
