Muslim anger over cartoons spreads
Smoke billowed Sunday from the Danish consulate in central Beirut, where hundreds of demonstrators thronged streets around the building to protest a Danish newspaper’s publication of cartoons depicting Islam’s revered prophet.
OK, folks, you’ve made your point. You’re upset; we get that. Now, though, your protests have descended into a silly, pointless, and gratuitously destructive exhibition of mob behavior. Do you REALLY think that destroying and burning buildings will do more to convince us of the “righteousness” of your cause? Will rioting and ignorant, random mob behavior be any more effective in convincing the West of your rigtheous anger? Or is this merely how you conduct an argument…by looting, destroying, and burning the property of those with the temerity to anger your by engaging in freedom of speech and expression (thereby justifying the depiction of you as angry, intolerant, destructive zealots)?
Apparently, the West must now filter everything through the “But will it anger the Muslim community?” filter. And yet Muslims are free to demean, insult, and murder Jews, defile the American flag, and generally do to the West what they accuse the West of doing to them. To decry this as the worst sort of hypocrisy wouldn’t begin to do this madness justice. Radical Muslims accuse the West of being anti-Muslim, even as they plot new and different ways to kill “Infidels” (Muslim code for those who dare to believe differently).
If I sound angry, it’s because I am. While I don’t mean this to be an indictment of Islam or the vast majority of it’s followers who are peaceful souls and actually FOLLOW the teachings of the Koran instead of reacting and rioting at the slightest provocation, I am sick to death of the duplicity and hypocrisy. Yes, I may have (numerous) issues with Christianity, but when was the last time you saw a frothing-at-the-mouth group of fundamentalists destroying and burning buildings because they feel that their God and their Bible was insulted?
Memo to all you radical Islamofascists who feel the need to destroy that which angers you: GET OVER YOURSELVES. The longer you keep this silliness up, the more likely you are to become fodder for satirists. Given your behavior, can you reasonably claim to be surprised that your religion (and destructive Fundamentalism) is being lampooned? You’re made to look like fools because you are ACTING like fools.
If you’re upset and offended by something, convince us that we can do better- and by “covince us”, I don’t mean burning down consulates and engaging in meaningless Groupthink boycotts of entire countries. Doing this just makes you look silly, ignorant, and intolerant. Most of us in the West react to reason; perhaps if we can be made to understand your point of view, we can do better. We will not, however, be cowed or convinced by pointless acts of senseless violence. All that does is make you look like thugs and common criminals, and we generally will not engage in a debate with thugs.
