House candidate admits former work as prostitute

DALLAS - A Dallas Democrat seeking election to the Texas House of Representatives has acknowledged that he once worked as a prostitute. Tom Malin, a salesman and actor, said he no longer works as a prostitute but conceded that his previous life could cost him the nomination in the March 7 Democratic primary.

I realize that Democrats try hardt to be the “big tent” party, but this might be taking things a bit too far. ‘Course, you have to give credit to Malin for having a varied resume- former prostitute, Mary Kay salesman, actor- but you have to wonder just how open-minded Dallas voters can be. If they’re anything like the slash-and-burn Conservatives here in District 22 (Tom DeLay’s fiefdom), Malin won’t stand a chance among the good, God-fearing White folks.

I would agree that past is not necessarily prologue. If Malin recognizes that what he has done is a mistake and made amends for it, then shouldn’t he be judged on where he is now and what he can do for the people of Dallas? Of course, this is politics, where anything and everything you have thought or done can and will be held against you if someone can use it to their political advantage. It may not be right, but it is the way the game is played.
