We've been here before, haven't we?

Frist says military action a posssibility against Iran

“We cannot allow Iran to become a nuclear nation,” Frist told reporters at the Missouri GOP’s annual Lincoln Days conference. “We need to use diplomatic sanctions. If that doesn’t work, economic sanctions, and if that doesn’t work, the potential for military use has to be on the table.”

It’s like deja vu all over again, eh? Remember how the propaganda began when the Bush Administration began preparing us for potential military action in Iraq? Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

You can bet that we’ll be hearing much more as time goes by regarding Iran. Don’t get me wrong; no reasonable person wants Iranian President Nutjob Mahmoud Ahmadinejad with his finger on the nuclear trigger. And it may well be that a military solution will ultimately be the only solution to Iranian intransigence. I can’t help but wonder, though. Will we begin to view every international problem in terms of how it might be resolved militarily? How far, and for how long, can we continue to project military might before our armed forces (not to mention our credibility) is stretched to the breaking point?

Frist’s warning is only the beginning. You can bet that the next few weeks and months will bring a continued drumbeat of carefully crafted Republican talking points, all designed to prepare us for the eventuality that we’ll be going to war against Iran. With something like 130,000 troops right next door in Iraq, you can bet that there are plans already in place.

The War Against Terror…coming soon to a rogue nation near you….
