Deja vu all over again....

Bush reaffirms strike-first policy: President says Iran may pose the biggest challenge for America.

WASHINGTON - Undaunted by the difficult war in Iraq, President Bush reaffirmed his strike-first policy against terrorists and enemy nations today and said Iran may pose the biggest challenge for America.

In a move that should surprise no one who has been paying attention for the past five years, Our Glorious Leader continues to advocate a defense policy that can only charitably be described as “Kick Ass First, Ask Questions Later.”

Though Our Glorious Leaders attempts to speak the language of diplomacy, the lack of sincerity is stunning. Post-9.11, he clearly feels that he can justify virtually any aggressive moves in terms of the “War on Terror”. For this Administration, war truly is foreign policy by other means…and if you don’t play by our rules, you’re liable to get your ass handed to you.

Titled “National Security Strategy,” the report summarizes Bush’s plan for protecting America and directing U.S. relations with other nations. It is an updated version of a report Bush issued in 2002.

In the earlier report a year after the Sept. 11 attacks, Bush underscored his administration’s adoption of a pre-emptive policy, marking the end of a deterrent military strategy that dominated the Cold War.

The latest report makes it clear Bush hasn’t changed his mind, even though no weapons of mass destruction were found in Iraq.

“When the consequences of an attack with weapons of mass destruction are potentially so devastating, we cannot afford to stand idly by as grave dangers materialize. … The place of pre-emption in our national security strategy remains the same,” Bush wrote.

The report had harsh words for Iran. It accused the regime of supporting terrorists, threatening Israel and disrupting democratic reform in Iraq. Bush said diplomacy to halt Tehran’s suspected nuclear weapons work must prevail to avert a conflict.

If you were paying attention, you’ll no doubt remember that the Prevaricator in Chief said all the right things about using diplomacy to find a resolution in Iraq. Ultimately, it came to pass that diplomacy was just a smoke screen, and the plan all along had been to go to war in Iraq. Interesting, isn’t it, that we’re now hearing the same sort of self-serving propaganda regarding Iran, which just happens to be right next door, and really DOES have (or is at least much closer to having) weapons of mass destruction?

If I were a betting man, which I’m not, I’d lay even money that American troops will be rolling into Iran within the next year or so. After all, what’s the use of being the world’s last remaining superpower if you can’t project your will and military might into the realm of recalcitrant regimes that support terrorism?

In BushWorld, War really is foreign policy by other means. Unfortunately, conducting foreign policy in this manner requires the continued “sacrifice” of young American lives. Of course, it’s easy to send the children of other people to war. I wonder how this would all be playing out if Our Glorious Leader had to send his own?

And you wonder why America is hated worldwide….?
