It's OK; he's a Republican and a Christian

Olbermann named Robertson “Worst Person” runner-up for for Islam “world domination” comments

On the March 14 edition of MSNBC’s Countdown, host Keith Olbermann awarded 700 Club host Pat Robertson runner-up in his daily “Worst Person in the World” segment for saying that “the goal of Islam … is world domination.”

MY NEW HERO #32: Keith Olbermann

There are few things more entertaining than watching a unreconstructed DUMB@$$ broadcast his ignorance and lunacy for all the world to see…and few are better at it than the Rev. Pat Robertson. Yes, if there were any justice in this world, I would retire the DUMB@$$ AWARD and rename it after Robertson, who has done more to entertain me than any other loon out there.

Now it appears that I’m not the only one jumping on the Pat Robertson appreciation bandwagon. If I were a lesser person, I’d be upset with Keith Olbermann for “stealing” my shtick, but I’ve always admired Olbermann, and besides, he’s a handsomely-paid professional pundit. I’m an unpaid lunatic with a weblog. I think I’d lose this argument.

My bitter, unresolved rivalry with Olbermann aside, Robertson truly is in rare form these days. He opens his mouth, and I can just feel my sense of anticipation rising. It’s like waiting for a geyser to blow; you know it’s going to happen, it’s just a matter of when, how much, and who’s going to get soaked. Pat Robertson is instant entertainment- an ignorant troll with a big mouth and no off switch. You go, girl….

OLBERMANN: The runner-up, the televangelist Pat Robertson, again, telling his by-now-benumbed TV audience that, quote, “the goal of Islam, ladies and gentlemen, whether you like it or not, is world domination.” He later clarified this by saying he only meant radical Islamist extremists. Details, schmetails, right, Pat?

What makes this latest burst of brilliant idiocy even more memorable is that Robertson’s remarks were scrubbed from the website of Robertson’s Christian Broadcast Network. This is really a shame, for what is lunacy if it cannot be shared with one’s flock (And isn’t it ironic that a preacher’s church is referred to by the same term used to describe an aggregation of sheep? Just asking….)?

Oh, and in case you’re wondering, Olbermann’s winner? Northwest Airlines, whom I also pilloried yesterday for announcing that they would begin charging extra for aisle seats. Yeah, I know; it’s difficult to believe that anyone or anything could be more intellectually bereft than Robertson, eh? Then again, Robertson isn’t taxing tall people.
