Nah, we just need a few warm bodies

Santa Clarita Woman, 78, Asked To Enlist As Marine

I realize that, with that Iraq war and all, filling slots in our all-volunteer military is becoming progressively more difficult, but I have to hand it to the Marine Corps for being the first to attempt to exploit the untapped source of patriotism and manpower that is our nation’s nursing homes. I mean, just think of the possibilites as the enemy runs in terror from a human wave assualt as American septuagenarians and octogenarians rise up en masse from their trenches and advance on enemy positions, armed little more than M-16s, walkers, and bad intentions. How many of our senior citizens wouldn’t jump at the opportunity to serve their country one more time?

Yes, our brave and resourceful Marines might just be onto something here….

(AP) SAUGUS, Calif. - Sonia Goldstein was flattered by the nice recruiting letter asking her to consider becoming one of “the few, the proud.”

But at age 78, she thinks she may be just a little old to enlist in the Marine Corps.

The letter told her the corps could use her unique language skills, but also warned that life as a Marine would test her physical and mental abilities.

Goldstein says she’ll do whatever she can for her country, but this is kind of stretching it.

Gee…d’ya think??? Of course, the pace of battle would be much slower, but this certainly would make it easier for Fox News Channel to find a positive spin, eh?
