State Dept. Cites Iraq Human Rights Abuses
The report comes at a time that the United States has been increasingly criticized on human rights issues, including the transfer of terror suspects to countries where human rights groups say they may be tortured. Although U.S. officials say they do not transfer prisoners for torture, the State Department report details torture in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, two nations known to cooperate in U.S. renditions.
Ah, the annual rite of silliness that is the US State Department’s Report on Human Rights, in which we learn that introspection and self-examination are NOT cherished American values. It’s much easier to point the finger of righteous indignation outward than to look at what Americans are doing, eh?
Given that this country is heavily invested in rolling back the rights of women, it should shock and surprise no one that the US is not exactly renowned as the world’s most hospitable and humane jailer. No, introspection and self-examination may not be American values, but it would appear that hypocrisy continues to be right at the top of the list, eh?
