New Florida town would restrict abortion: Domino’s founder building community around Catholic university

NAPLES, Florida (AP) — If Domino’s Pizza founder Thomas S. Monaghan has his way, a new town being built in Florida will be governed according to strict Roman Catholic principles, with no place to get an abortion, pornography or birth control. The pizza magnate is bankrolling the project with at least $250 million and calls it “God’s will.” Civil libertarians say the plan is unconstitutional and are threatening to sue.

A town designed and built for rich, white Conservative Christians? Implied or actual limits on “questionable” and/or unsavory behavior? No place to procure porn or birth control? No tolerance for Liberal Democrats? Heh…a place like that already exists right here in the Houston area. We call it Sugar Land….home to “The Hammer”, Rep. Niccolo Machiavelli Tom DeLay.

A land of gated communities, perfectly manicured lawns, beautifully coiffed and made-up soccer moms, SUVs festooned with magnetic ribbons, and megachurches as far as the eye can see, Sugar Land is a veritable Christian Republican paradise, where nary is heard a Liberal word and the skies are not cloudy all day.

And the best part about Sugar Land? It’s not in Florida…so no sinkholes. No, in Sugar Land, you’ll be surrounded by the rich, the righteous, and the Republican. Could things BE any better? Well, no; not if you’re rich, righteous and Republican. Welcome to the land of “I got mine. You get your own.” Right here in our own back yard.
